How do I inject Wegovy®?
Wegovy® is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not inject into a vein or muscle. Before using the Wegovy® FlexTouch® pen for the first time, ask your doctor or nurse how to use it.
These are the best places to give the injection:
You may inject in the same body area each week, but you must make sure it is not in the same spot you used the last time.
For more information on how to use Wegovy®, read the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) →
You can also visit the page ‘ How do I take my medicine?’ for more guidance on how to use the Wegovy® FlexTouch® pen, including an example video.
You should use Wegovy® once a week and, if possible, on the same day each week. You can give yourself the injection at any time of the day, regardless of meals. If you need to, you can change the day of your weekly injection of Wegovy®, as long as it has been at least three days since your last injection. After selecting a new dosing day, continue with taking Wegovy® once a week.

If you have taken more Wegovy® than you should, contact your doctor straight away. They will be able to advise you on what to do next. You may get side effects, such as feeling sick (nausea).
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you do miss a dose, you should follow the five-day rule:
The recommended dose for Wegovy® is 2.4 mg once weekly. However, this is not the dose you will start your treatment on.
‘Dose escalation’ means that your dose will be gradually increased. This is done to help lower the chances of experiencing gastrointestinal side effects such as feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting). Your treatment will start at the lowest available dose — 0.25 mg once weekly. Your doctor will gradually increase your dose every four weeks until you reach the recommended dose of 2.4 mg once weekly. Your doctor will assess your treatment on a regular basis.
If you experience side effects, your doctor may decide to lower to a previous dose or delay increasing your dose until your symptoms are better. It’s really important that you let them know about any side effects you experience so they can make sure you’re on the right dose. You can learn more about dose escalation by visiting the ‘ How do I take my medicine?’ section of this website.
You should follow the dosing plan as prescribed by your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
When you first start using Wegovy®, the starting dose is 0.25 mg once weekly. Your doctor will instruct you to gradually increase your dose every 4 weeks until you reach the recommended dose of 2.4 mg once weekly. This gradual titration up to the 2.4 mg dose helps to reduce the likelihood of developing ‘gastrointestinal’ side effects. This means side effects relating to your digestive system. These can include feeling or being sick, diarrhoea, constipation and stomach pain.
If you experience side effects, your doctor may decide to lower to a previous dose or delay increasing your dose until your symptoms are better. It’s really important that you let them know about any side effects you experience so they can make sure you’re on the right dose.
